Abstract | In this paper, we present a new combined subdivision algorithm to generate a smooth surface model from an initial control mesh with arbitrary topology. The scheme begins with interpolating the initial control mesh, and then subdivides the gradually refined mesh. The limit surface is c1 continuous, and the initial control mesh does not need to be a quadrilateral net. The scheme can be used in reverse engineering and CAGD. It can be also applied in 3D model data transmission for real time teleoperation because of its data compression function with easy implementation. |
