AbstractIn Chinese, personal names bear abundant meaning, from cultural meaning to social meaning. Many studies have been performed on Chinese person names from different perspectives, while researchers have paid little attention to the statistical relation between Chinese personal names and gender recognition. We analyze the relation between characters used in personal names and then use a conditional random fields model to train a gender recognition model. Experimental results show the effectiveness of the proposed model. ? 2015, ICIC International.
