Objective To understand the status of breastfeeding and complementary feeding of left-behind children and non-left-behind children under 3 years in poverty rural areas of China, and to provide evidence for the promotion of scientific feeding of poverty rural children. Methods 1 439 subjects were selected in poverty rural areas from 6 counties of 6 central and west provinces, including 940 leftbehind children and 499 non-left-behind children aged under 3 years, through face-to-face questionnaire interview to guardians achieving the information on breastfeeding and complementary feeding of the children. Results The rate of exclusive breastfeeding in 6 months in leftbehind children was lower than in non-left-behind children and the difference was statistically significant( P<0. 05). The difference was not statistically significant( P>0. 05) on the proportion of left-behind children and non-left-behind children of starting to add complementary foods from 6 month. Conclusion The rate of exclusive breastfeeding in 6 months of left-behind children is lower, and the rate of complementary feeding too early or too late for left-behind children and non-left behind children is high. Scientific feeding guidance should be strengthened for children in poverty rural areas, especially on exclusive breastfeeding in 6 months and complementary feeding for left-behind children. |
